Irvine Barclay Theatre is more than just a venue… under the guidance of President Jerry Mandel, it’s a philosophy dedicated to finding new and creative ways to present the performing arts and engage with the community.
In August, the Barclay began a series of outdoor concerts on the patio of Bayside Restaurant in Newport Beach. The fall started a collaboration with the City of Irvine to present two family-oriented drive-in concerts at the Great Park.
The Barclay’s newest venture is two concerts by the IBT Jazz Band on Oct 9 and Oct 16 in front of UCI Douglas Hospital at the UCI Medical Center to say thank you to doctors, nurses and essential workers in the medical field who are working on the front lines of our current health crisis every day.
These events were organized through Chad Lefteris, CEO of UCI Health, as a boost for UCI Health employees and patients. “The weather was perfect for our outdoor concert! Staff, faculty, and visitors alike enjoyed this special engagement which recognized the hard work of our frontline workers throughout UCI Health.”
On Friday, UCI Health employees were able to enjoy the music on the plaza during work breaks, patients could hear the music from their rooms, as well. The son of a patient recovering on one of the upper floors of the hospital came down to the lawn and livestreamed the concert for his mother to make sure she could enjoy the concert to the fullest.
The IBT Jazz Band is making a return engagement to UCI Medical Center this Friday, October 16th playing 3 sets starting at noon. The members of the band are Jerry Mandel and Craig Springer (saxophones), Sam Montooth (bass and vocals), Kendall Kay (drums), and Ron Kobayashi (keyboards).
A special thank you to Barclay Board Member Ramona Agrela, Chief Human Resources Executive and Associate Chancellor at UCI, who helped to make the connection.
