Orange County Youth Symphony
Orange County Youth Orchestra (OCYS) is a full symphony orchestra for string, woodwind, brass, and percussion open to musicians by audition in grades 9th through 12th. Orange County Youth Orchestra rehearses once a week beginning late August through May at Irvine Barclay Theatre on Sunday afternoons.
Established in 1970 as the area’s first honors youth orchestra, OCYS has continually provided young musicians with the rare opportunity to perform in a professional setting, while also advancing and sharing the intercultural love of music. In 2017, OCYS officially integrated with the Philharmonic Society of Orange County. This extraordinary relationship provides musicians with exciting opportunities to engage with some of classical music’s most celebrated artists, such as violinists Ray Chen, Midori, Sarah Chang, and the Kronos Quartet.
